Winter Competition 2013 Drawsheets Now Online

Winter Competition 2013 Drawsheets are now online. This competition is run on the Olympic format and players will either go on to compete the Goild Division or drop into the Red, Blue or White Divisions after losing a match.

There is also a handicaps in place and it works as follows -

If both players have the same handicap, either plus or minus – all games start at 0.
If one both players have plus handicaps, the player with the lowest starts each game at 0 and the other players starts with plus the difference of the two handicaps.
E.G.  Player A is +1. Player B is +4. Then A starts each game at 0 and B starts each game at +3. Similarly if both players have a minus handicap.
Where one player has a minus handicap and the other has a plus handicap, then each game begins with the exact handicap.
Matches will be 2 games to 15 points and tiebreaker to 11 points and handicaps are in force for all games including tiebreakers

Next Competition -Winter Triple Eliminator

The next competition will get underway in An Sportalnn in the first week of February. This will be a Triple Eliminator competition where each player will get a minimum of 3 matches. A player losing all 3 matches will be eliminated from the competition.

There will be 2 to 3 skill divisions according to ability and new players are especially welcome to compete.

Robert Fahy & Padraic Ryder win Yuletide Doubles

Robert Fahy and Padraig Ryder were the winners of the annual Mayo Crystal Yuletide Doubles Shootout at Sunday last. They defeated Kieran Conway and Paddy Sheridan by 2 games to one in the final. The Red Division was won by Majella Haverty and John Sheridan while Kevin McNamara and John Reilly won the White Division.

Xmas Doubles Competition

A one-day Xmas Doubles Competition will be held in An Sportlann on Sunday 30th December. Closing date for entries is the 23rd December, Draw for partners will take place on Thursday 27th  December, Entry fee is €10 and €5 for students and Under 18`s.

Beginners welcome and each team will be given at least 2 matches. The start time for the competition will be 10am.

The draws for the finals stages of the Autumn Competition were decided after all the Pool matches were played.

The knock outs begin on Wed 5th December and continue until the finals on Thursday 20th December 2012

Katie to Compete at World Juniors in Los Angeles

Katie Kenny is on her way to Los Angeles, USA to compete with Irish Junior Racquetball Team at the World Junior Championships.

The Championships will take place from the 11th - 17th November. Katie will play in the Under 18 Singles and Under 18 Doubles with partner Aisling Hickey from Co Tipperary.

Racquetball Season about to begin!

With days becoming shorter and the weather becoming cooler its time to get inside and play some racquetball. The first competition will commence in a few weeks time so anyone who wants to play should be getting in some practise now.

Autumn Competition

Castlebar Racquetball Club`s Autumn Competition will begin shortly in An Sportlann. This competition will be a round robin league with 4 or 5 skill divisions. There will be also a competition for beginners.

Matches will be usually scheduled for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings and fixtures will be published on the website. Entry is 15€ for adults and 5€ for juniors (Under 18). Entry fees for students is 10€.

New Players

Racquetball provides a great form of exercise which is not boring and you can burn about 700 calories per hour playing at moderate level. The equipqment you need to start plkaying racquetball are a racquet, racquetball ball, runners that will not mark the court floor and goggles to protect your eyes. Junior Coaching Begins on Thursday 4th Oct

Castlebar Racquetball Club will begin junior coaching for boys & girls on Thursday 4th of October at 7pm at the racquetball courts in An Sportlann.

Registration is 5€ per player. A coaching fee of 3€ per player(discounts for families) is payable for each coaching session on Thursday evenings.

Racquets, balls and goggles availble to new players. New players should wear runners and tracksuit.
