Bronze Medal for Katie Kenny at World Junior Championships

At the World Junior Championships in Los Angeles, USA,  Katie Kenny won a bronze medal in the Girls 16 & Under Doubles. Katie partnered Aisling Hickey from the Rossmore club in Co Tipperary.

In the pool play, prior to the elimination round, Katie & Aisling won two of their three matches defeating Mexicans

Ana Paola Camacho  & Natalia Beltran and Larissa Ayon & Sylvia Zamora from  Nicaragua. In the knock out stages they defeated Ana Cristina Velez & Caridad Vintimilla from Equador before losing in the semi-final to USA`s Courtney Chisholm & Devon Pimentelli.

Majella Haverty played in the Girls Under 18 Singles and recoded a win in the pool play against Pamela Sierra from Honduras but 2  losses saw drawn against number 2 seed, Canadian Frederigue Lambert to whom she lost by 2 games to nil.

Castlebar Girls represent Ireland at World Juniors

Katie Kenny and Majella Haverty will be part of the 20 strong Irish Team to compete in the 22nd World Junior Championships in Los Angeles, USA from the 15th - 20th November. Katie who plays Under 16 Singles and Doubles is a student at Syt Josephs Secondary School, Castlebar and Majella who will compete in the Under 18 Singles and Doubles is a student at the Mater Dei Institute in Dublin.

The Irish Team leave for Los Angeles on Wednesday 10th of November. The Opening Ceremony of the 22nd Championships will take place on the 14th November.

The R2 Sports website will have all the information on the Championships.

Autumn Competition Begins this Week

The club`s Autumn Competition will begin this week. It is a round robin competition with 45 players competing. The top players at the end of the round robin series of matches will go on to contest the knock out stages in December. Click on the Fixtures page to view fixtures for the coming weeks.

 

Get ready for the 2010/2011 Season!

The new racquetball season for 2010/2011 will officially begin in October. The club will begin with the Autumn Competition in An Sportlann. September is an ideal time to get some practise in before the competitions begin. Beginners are very welcome and all beginners who enter the Autumn Competition will start in the Novice Division. Courts can be booked in An Sportlann by calling 094 9022983. Booking blocks are in units of 45 minutes and the cost of 45 minutes court time is 10€ (5€ per player).                                                                                                                   For competitions, players may sign up at An Sportlann or enter online (online form will be available shortly on this site).

Castlebar Girls Compete at World Racquetball Championships

Castlebar racquetball athletes, Majella Haverty and Katie Kenny compete at the 15th IRF World Championships in Seoul South Korea from 13th - 21st August. Ireland send just four players to these Championships, two men and two women. Both Majella and Katie are experienced juniors having competed at the World Juniors Championships previously and make their first appearance for Ireland at senior level. Currently Majella is ranked number 2 in Ireland and Katie is ranked number 5.  In 2008 , Ireland was in 10th place overall at the 14th Championships which were held in Kingscourt,  Co Cavan. Any improvement on that position will be a major achievement for an under strength Irish team.

 

World Title for Beth

At the 5th IRF World Senior Doubles Racquetball Championships held in Kingscourt, Co Cavan from 9th - 12th June 2010, Beth Mitten representing the Castlebar Club won a gold medals in the Mixed Doubles 35+ and Womens Doubles 35+.In the Mixed Doubles, Beth was partnered by Christy Slattery from the Templederry Club in Co Tipperary while in the Womens Doubles she was partnered by Carol Lynch,Queens University, Belfast.

Castlebar player, Beth Mitten competes in the World Senior Doubles Championships which is being held this week at Kingscourt Handball & Racquetball Club in Co Cavan.  Beth will compete in the 35 + Womens Doubles with partner Carol Lynch from Belfast and in the Mixed Doubles with Christy Slattery from Tipperary.  Draws & Results from the Championships can be viewed HERE

 

Katie Kenny & Majella Haverty Win at Irish Open

Success for Majella Haverty and Katie Kenny when they won the Women Doubles at the 29th Irish Open in Arklow,Co.Wicklow.In the final,they defeated Susan Farell and Antonia Neary from Arklow by 2 games to nil 15-14,15-12.

Katie reached the final of the Womens Singles but was defeated 2 games to nil by Donna Ryder from Newport,Co.Mayo.
